Toki Blades
Steel toki blades hand-forged right here in Te Tai Tokerau by AJ Prime.
These blades are made to be a little more akin to traditional stone toki blades than the adzes commonly used in carving.
They can be screwed to a kakau of your choosing using the 2x 7mm screw holes or simply lashed; or both. I recommend using a kakau shaped from a branch with a natural crook, for strength.
These toki blades are hand-forged, shaped and heat treated here in Te Taitokerau by me. The blade is forged from a high carbon steel called SUP9 - commonly used to make springs.
PLEASE NOTE: These are BLADES ONLY! You’ll need to supply your own kakau.
-----------------------------
Approx size:
70mm wide; 180mm long; 30mm wide at tang.
Gentle curve in cutting edge.
SUP9 carbon steel.
Can be lashed to kakau (haft) or fixed with screws through the two 7mm holes.
PLEASE NOTE: These are BLADES ONLY! You’ll need to supply your own kakau.
----------------------------
Toki are prominent in our stories, from Te Whironui and Āwiorangi to Ngāpakitua and Tauira-ata.
Forging steel toki blades has been a natural progression of AJ's work; to take his knifemaking skills and use them to create tools which aid his pursuit of Te Toi Whakairo.
